Introduction

Within the framework of its International Politics Programme, HBS Southern Africa aims to strengthen the international discourse on issues of resource governance and foreign and security affairs in Africa. The foundation is especially interested in South Africa’s role as an active player on the continent and globally as well as in emerging powers such as China or India that entered the scramble for Africa’s natural resources. As such, the foundation hosts conferences and supports research on these and related subjects.

Our hope is that such efforts will contribute to an improved understanding of issues that are of strategic importance to (Southern) Africa’s development agenda and enhance South-North and South-South networking and exchange.
